ATR (average true range)
An indicator of how much an instrument typically moves per period.
ATR averages the true range (which accounts for gaps) over a lookback window to put a number on volatility. Traders use it to size stops and positions to current conditions: wider stops and smaller size when ATR is high, tighter when it is calm.
