Gap

A jump between one period's close and the next period's open, with no trading between.

Gaps form when news or order imbalances move price while the market is closed or illiquid. They matter for risk because a stop can be jumped over and filled far away, and many traders watch whether a gap 'fills' by price returning to the prior level.
