Stop order

A resting order that triggers once price crosses a set level.

A stop order stays dormant until price hits the trigger, then becomes a market (or stop-limit) order. It is used to cap losses or to enter on a breakout, but as a market order on trigger it can fill well past the stop in fast conditions.
