Basis
The difference between a futures (or perp) price and the underlying spot price.
Basis is futures minus spot; it reflects carrying costs, interest, and sentiment, and converges to zero as a contract nears expiry. Traders watch it to gauge positioning and to run cash-and-carry trades that harvest the spread.
